We have received the following reports of multiple auto break-ins over the weekend (September 19-20, 2009):

<< While walking my dogs in the 9200 block of Limestone this morning, I noticed the window glass from a vehicle in front of [a home on] Limestone.  A short time later I saw one of the residents of that block.  She told me that a car was broken into on Limestone last night and she saw the police taking a report.  The incident occurred in the area where I saw the glass.  The neighbor also told me there was another similar car break in over the weekend. >>

<< My wife was leaving this morning and found someone’s ID in our grass.  We had a feeling that it was due to an auto break-in since they are so commonplace these days.  We also had a feeling it belonged to the college rental house on the corner of Bridgewater and Marlborough Court and asked several students standing out front.  They said the ID did belong to someone that lived at the house and that all the cars from the residence that were parked on the street (4-6 cars) were broken into last night.  PG County Police took a report and just left a few minutes ago. >>

Please be on the alert and report any suspicious activity and suspicious persons to the police right away at 301-333-4000; call 911 if you think crime is about to be committed.  Also, please encourage victims of these crimes to notify us (CPW Neighborhood Watch) after they have made a report to the police.

A resident on the 9300 block of St. Andrews Place has sent us the following report:

<< We live [on the 9300 block of ] St. Andrews Place and on August 19th at approximately 7:30 a.m., we discovered our cars had been broken into.  We believe this occurred sometime between 1:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.  The alarms did not sound for either car.  One was parked in the driveway – it was broken into, vandalized and items from glove box and pockets were strewn all over the car.  The other car was on the street immediately in front of the house — the passenger side window on that car was broken, the contents  strewn all over.  We called the police, they came and took a report and inspected the cars.  They advised us this was their second call of the morning for vehicle damage. >>

Mary Cook, our District 4 City Councilmember, has asked Bob Ryan, Director of Public Services for College Park, to increase contract police patrol of our neighborhood, and Bob informs us that an investigation is on-going on the happenings of last Wednesday, August 19th.

In the meantime, please continue to be on the alert and report all suspicious activity, persons and vehicles to the police — 301-333-4000 for non-emergies and 911 for anything you sense is worth police attention right away.

We have received the following report of a break-in & entering that occurred yesterday – Wednesday, August 19, 2009:

<< I live on the 3700 block of Marlbrough Way in College Park Woods.  I would like to inform you that around anywhere between 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. a Dodge Durango was parked in my driveway and a couple, most likely two or three, hispanic males broke into my house.  They stole a ton of jewerly and were in the process of stealing a TV when my son (coming back from Starbucks) saw the car in the driveway.  Thinking that it was a friend of mine’s car and that they were helping me move in, my son parked outside the driveway and when the thieves saw him, they drove off in the Durango really FAST. 

I’ve reported the incident to the police.  I would just like the neighborhood know that incidents like these are starting occur very frequently in our neighborhood — my son has friends that say that their house has been robbed on Duke Street – and we need to put an end to it, immediately. >>

Good news!  We’ve received the following report on the lost cocker spaniel:

<<We found the owner yesterday evening. They live on Limestone, they put out a flyer and one of my neighbors saw it. Luckily I had chance to speak with this neighbor while distributing the flyer for N.N.O. and told her about the dog. It’s nice to have a happy ending to a neighborly situation.>>

Please remember that pets must be registered, and leashed with identification tags on them at all times when they are away from the owner’s property.

<< My Jeep was broken into sometime last night [July 30th, 2009].  Jeep was in my driveway, and I discovered it when I was coming back from walking my dog this morning.  The back hatch window was jimmied – nothing stolen but now I’m really spooked.  Police were notified.  What bothers me is that my neighbors are both policemen, and they bring their squad cars home at night.  The nerve of these vandals is unbelieveable. >>

<<The following is a brief synopsis of information reported to the University Park Police:

INCIDENT: Attempted Breaking & Entering

OCCURRED: July 27, 2009 at 1:55pm

LOCATION: 4000 block of College Heights Drive

UPPD CASE #:  09-208-0898

BRIEF DETAILS:  On July 27, 2009 at 1:55pm in the 4000 block of College Heights Drive a resident advised that he was sitting in his basement when he observed a person look in his basement window. The suspect then walked down the exterior basement steps and opened the unlocked basement door. The resident grabbed the suspect’s arm as he was opening the door, but the suspect slipped away, jumped over the fence and ran down Beechwood Rd. towards Adelphi Rd.  The suspect left behind a silver and blue Dynacraft mountain bike. The resident advised that he also saw a second suspect leave the area in an unknown direction.

The resident called 911, and UPPD & PGPD responded to the scene. The area was searched for the suspects with negative results. The bicycle left behind was processed for fingerprints and held for evidence. No property was stolen.

Suspect #1 was described as a black male, 5’8″, 130 lbs, between 15-17yrs. old, with short dark hair, wearing a red t-shirt and blue jeans.

Suspect #2 was described as a black male, 5’8″, 130 lbs., between 15 – 17 yrs.old, with short dark hair, wearing a dark blue t-shirt, blue jeans, and riding a dark colored mountain bike.

Please be vigilant of suspicious persons and suspicious activity . 

 As insignificant as a situation may seem at the time, it could be the tip necessary to solve the crime so please call the UPPD if you notice anything out of the ordinary.

<< On July 21, 2009 at approximately 3:00 p.m., three unknown suspects broke into a residence in the 3900 blk of Madison Street in Hyattsville.  The suspects entered the home through a basement window and stole several electronic items.  The suspects are described as follows:

       Suspect #1 — Hispanic male, late teens or early 20’s, 5’8”, 145 lbs, wearing all white clothing

       Suspect #2 — Hispanic male, late teens or early 20’s, 6’0”, 170 lbs, wearing all white clothing

       Suspect #3 — Black male (no further description available)

The suspects fled in a white sedan. >>

INCIDENT:  Breaking & Entering

OCCURRED:  July 23, 2009 Between 7:30am – 10:00pm

LOCATION:  4200 block of Sheridan St.

UPPD CASE #:  09-202-2101

BRIEF DETAILS:  On July 21, 2009 at between 7:30am and 10:00pm in the 4200 block of Sheridan St. the home owner arrived home and found his laptop computer missing. The UPPD was contacted and the home was searched and found to be safe. The homeowner advised that the windows were left open and some indication that window screens had been tampered with was found. The Item stolen was a Dell 17″ laptop computer.

The UPPD processed the scene for fingerprints, searched the area for suspect/s and witnesses and notified local jurisdictions of the incident.

Please be vigilant of suspicious persons and suspicious activity .

Dear Neighbors:

We have just received the following report from a resident on the 9200 block of St. Andrews Place:

A 2002 Lincoln Town car was stolen from the resident’s driveway between 3:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. this morning [Saturday, July 25th, 2009].  A report was made to the police right away, and Montgomery County police contacted the resident around 10:00 a.m. this morning to let him know that the car had been found abandoned in a woods in Spencerville.  Everything moveable from the console and glove compartment was stolen, along with the car mats, a pillow, dog leash, and the rear handicap license plate.

The car had been locked while parked in the resident’s driveway, so the thieves apparently had some sort of key to enter the car without setting off the alarm and breaking anything to enter it.  Other than the stolen items, nothing else seems amiss at this time.

Let’s be on the alert and on the lookout for each other.

We now have a report on the other vehicle break-in that occurred Wednesday night/Early Thursday morning, July 8th/9th, 2009 — this one involved a pick-up truck on the 3500 block of Marlbrough Way:

<< My driver’s side door window was smashed, and the radio, amplifier, and all of the contents of the glove compartment (maps, insurance cards, repair history, and a screwdriver) were taken.  Fortunately I did not leave the title in there.  Inexplicably, my iPod was not taken, nor any of the speakers, including the external subwoofer that wasn’t attached to anything once the amplifier was removed.  The police were notified immediately, and a complete report was made. >>

This break-in occurred the same night as the one on Gettysburg Lane that we sent out the alert about yesterday.

Please be watchful, and notify the police (301-333-4000) with any information you may have to help resolve these crimes.

One of our Block Captains for Gettysburg Lane has reported the following:

<<A visitor’s truck which was parked in our driveway [on] Getttysburg Lane was broken into last night between 11:00 pm and 5:00 am.   A generator was stolen from the back of the truck and the chargers for the cell phone and GPS were stolen from the cab.  They broke into the glove compartment but did not take the GPS.   We don’t know for sure if anything else was stolen.   The break-in was reported and the police came quickly.   There has been at least one other break-in last night (on Marlborough Way), and they expect to hear of others since the thieves cruise the area taking whatever they can get.

There will be a citywide Neighborhood Watch meeting at 7:00 p.m. next Wednesday, July 15th, 2009 at Davis Hall.  All residents are encouraged to attend.

Good afternoon,

I have been in contact with our CID Robbery Unit (they are conducting the investigation)  they have an idea who the suspect might be but can’t as of yet prove it.  The person that was actually arrested had his last address on 85^th Ave in New Carrollton.  (His new one is the jail in Upper Marlboro.)

There is nothing to indicate that he is anywhere in the area.  In fact my experience says that he has probably fled the area.
